One of the things that I looked forward to on TV each week was McCloud.  I don’t recall what night of the week it came on, but this was one night that I somehow had control of the knob.  And so, I would always tune in to watch that handsome cowboy, Dennis Weaver, fight crime in New York.

Weaver had already become famous from his role as Chester on Gunsmoke, but I will always remember him as Sam McCloud.

In addition to a very sucessful career in television, Weaver has also played many film roles including starring in Steven Spielberg’s debut film, Duel (1971).

Weaver was born in Joplin, Missouri on June 4, 1924, and died on February 24, 2006.  He was a vegetarian since 1958, a strong advocate for alternative energies including hydrogen and wind power, and he founded an organization which provided food for 150,000 under-privileged people per week in Los Angeles.

With his rugged good looks, charming smile, and that sexy voice, how can you not like this guy?
